Freddie Balay

Freddie  died in February of 2009, but we just now received notification. He was living in Sugarland, Texas and was a geologist. Here's his obituary from the Houston Chronicle:

 

FRED BALAY was born January 23, 1951 in Pampa, TX and passed away February 18, 2009 at his home in Houston, TX. Fred served as a Serflaggeant in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Fred worked as a Gulf Coast geologist for 30 years. He was an avid golfer, Civil War buff, caring husband and loving father. Fred is survived by his loving wife Tina; best friend and son Sean; mother Evelyn; mother-in-law Dolores "Gail" Camp and many family and friends. Visitation will be from 8AM until 8:30AM Friday, February 20, 2009 at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road.

Graveside service held 10:30AM Friday, February 20, 2009 at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Arthritis Foundation or the Houston Metro Lift Services.

I remember Freddie as we called him in many of my classes. He was fun to be around. I remeber he was short and round. If he went to the marines, he didn't stay that way long. His sister, Pam and her husband served as Deacon and teacher and also as choir members in our church here in Wheeler. I am very sorry for thier loss.
