Donald Barnhill
April 27, 1951 - April 14, 2018
Donald Earl Barnhill, age 66, was born in Borger, Texas April 27, 1951 to Dorothy Mae Taylor Barnhill and Clifford Melvin Barnhill. Don was the middle son and had brothers, Max and Larry. He graduated from Pampa High School, located in Panhandle of Texas. Don excelled in extemporaneous speaking during high school. He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock and graduated with a degree in Business Administration
During his college years, Don dated Denise Westbrook. They were married in Lubbock, Texas on November 10, 1973. He worked for E.D.S. in Des Moines, Iowa and Dallas, Texas. After several years as a systems engineer, he made the decision to attend law school. In 1978 he graduated with a law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio, Texas.
Don and Denise have three daughters- Jennifer, Ashley and Catherine. Don spent much of his personal time taking the girls to soccer game, tournaments, piano recitals, along with many other fun activities.
Don became an experienced litigator in both state and federal courts with cases ranging from personal injury to complex federal procurement cases. He spoke at many federal contracting seminars and has been published in federal contract journals including the San Antonio Business Journal, the San Antonio Construction News, The Federal Competitor, The Defense Files, along with his firm's Federal Procurement Newsletter. He was licensed to practice in the state of Texas as well as the District of Columbia. He also practiced in many courts throughout the United States. Don was selected as a member of Preeminent Lawyers by Martindale-Hubbell and Recognized by Best's Directory of Recommended Attorneys. Don specialized in Government Contracts and enjoyed traveling extensively to Germany representing clients.
Don and Denise have lived in San Antonio since 1975. He will be remembered as a great father and husband, spending much of his time with his family. Don loved playing tennis, as well as golfing.
Don is survived by his wife Denise, daughter Jennifer Barnhill Knudtson and Brody Knudtson, grandchildren Elizabeth and Benjamin Knudtson, and daughters Ashley and Catherine Barnhill. Other family members include Gail Barnhill, Chris Barnhill, Carrie Reeder, Larry Paul Barnhill, Cody and Travis Barnhill, Terrie and Steve Taylor, as well as several nieces and nephews.

I met Don in third grade at William B. Travis Elementary. His house seemed close to the school, and sometimes we walked to it to hang out for a while after school. I got transferred to Stephen F. Austin the next year, but Don and I reconnected in 7th grade at Robert E. Lee, and from then on I considered him a good friend. He was a decent and kind man. I got to meet his daughter once in Dallas for a piano competition at SMU and then when she brought him to our last reunion. I think we all could tell that Don was in the early stage then of a cognitive decline. I fault myself for only thinking about, and not actually doing something, to stay in touch with him over the past four years.
Don: may you rest in the arms of our Lord. I miss you, my friend.
