Edward Glenn Moultrie, 69, of Arlington and formerly of Pampa, passed away January 16, 2020 in Arlington.
Memorial services will be 1:00 PM Friday, January 24, 2020, at Jubilee United Methodist Church in Duncanville, with Rev. Robert Davis, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas.
Memorial graveside services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, with Rev. Ruby Moultrie, his sister and pastor of First United Methodist Church in Pampa, officiating.
Edward was born October 29, 1950 in Plainview to Albert and Artie Mae Moultrie. He first learned about the love of God when he attended St. Mark CME Church in Pampa. Ed attended Carver Elementary School, Pampa Junior High School, and Pampa High School where he graduated in 1969. With his love of sports, he was one of the first African Americans to play basketball proudly under the leadership of Coach Terry Culley at PHS. After graduation, he continued his studies at Lubbock Christian University (LCU). After 3 years, he returned to Pampa and worked for Skelly Oil Company 20 years. This job led him to future employment in Houston with Conoco Phillips for 22 years. During his stay in Pampa, Ed was fondly known as "Pops" to the kids in the area as he coached basketball with the Pampa Optimist Club. He also helped with practices for the Harvesters. Health problems led to early retirement and a final move to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in October of 2012. In retirement, Ed continued to enjoy sports and his family.
Ed is preceded in death by his mother and father.
Ed is survived by two daughters, Taylor Moultrie Williams and husband Joseph of Houston and granddaughter Ja’niyah, and daughter Charles Johnson of San Antonio; two brothers, Robert Moultrie of Arlington and Samuel Moultrie of Corsicana; five sisters, Thelma Moultrie of Grand Prairie, Rev. Ruby Moultrie of Pampa, Sharon Moultrie Bruner of Grand Prairie, Willow Bell Moultrie Robertson of Waco, and Doris Renay Wesley of Corsicana; two nephews, Jarard Bruner of Austin and Julian Bruner of Grand Prairie; and many other nephews and nieces.
The family suggests memorial gifts to be given to the American Diabetes Association, 8008 Slide Road, Suite 12-A, Lubbock, Texas 79424.
