Sam Virden, 67, of Lake Stamford, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at his home. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Central Cemetery in Hawley, Texas, with Rev. Jesse Morton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home in Stamford.
Sam was born on March 18, 1950 in Pampa, Texas, the son of the late Maynard and Gertrude (Jones) Virden. He married Patricia Darden on December 21, 1981 in Dallas, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a submariner Sam retired from AT & T and moved to Lake Stamford from Hawley in 2006. Sam enjoyed living at the lake, going fishing, and working in his yard. He also liked to watch wildlife out at the lake. Sam was a Baptist.
Sam’s parents and one daughter, Shannon Bricker preceded him in death.
Sam is survived by his wife, Pat Virden of Lake Stamford; a son, Mike Ballard of Denison, Texas; 6 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Glenda Kenner of Alaska, Alice Price and Sharon Virden, both of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
