I saw Darrel and his wife at the 25 year reunion. *I* thought that he was the least changed of anyone and he kept saying that *I* was! I'm sorry that his life ended just too soon. Would have loved to visit with them again.
I always thought Darrel embodied "cool" and "handsome." And, more importantly, a genuinely good guy. I regret that I did not go see him when I learned that he was gravely ill. -Josiah Daniel
Yeah, Darrel was cute and cool and definitely on the "naughty side"! LOL! At Lee Jr High he was always going around asking us girls if he could put his tiger in our tank. (hope you remember the gasoline commercial) The only one of us that would say yes was Katy Dodd! Where are you, girl?
I was in the first grade at Woodrow Wilson with Darrell and we were friends all the way through school but I think we became better friends after graduating. I spoke to Darrell several times as he was fighting cancer; he handled it in a very dignified manner as you would expect from someone with his zest for life. He was at peace with the Lord and there was standing room only at his service.
Darrel's death is so recent that I don't think it has sunk in yet; I'm sure that is true for most of us. Darrel and I shared a love of music that didn't really manifest until after high school on those rare times we would see each other on trips back home. He was very supportive of what I was trying to do -- he loved music had a lot of musical talent. On top of that, he was an amazing husband to Jane (and a GREAT dad to their daughter). I'm sure that it's been very tough without him for those two. It's heartbreaking to even think that he's gone now -- along with so many others from the class of '69.
